About the Role

As a Principal Engineering Manager at ABBYY, you will lead two backend feature teams while remaining deeply hands-on in technical decision-making and architectural leadership. This role uniquely blends people leadership, delivery ownership, and principal-level engineering influence, ensuring the development of high-quality, scalable backend systems that power ABBYY’s intelligent automation platform.

You will play a critical role in shaping engineering culture, driving technical excellence, and enabling teams to deliver impactful, reliable solutions at scale.

Key Responsibilities

People & Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and grow two backend feature teams (~8 engineers total)
  • Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development conversations
  • Partner with Recruiting and HR to hire top talent and build scalable onboarding and progression frameworks
  • Foster a culture of psychological safety, continuous learning, and engineering excellence

Technical Strategy & Architecture

  • Act as a principal-level technical authority across backend systems
  • Drive architectural decisions across technologies including .NET (C#), Node.js, Kubernetes, AWS, Azure, and Cloudflare Workers
  • Define and enforce coding standards, testing strategies, and deployment best practices
  • Serve as the escalation point for complex technical and architectural challenges
