About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Android Developer (Kotlin) for the Mobile Team dedicated to designing and enhancing mobile application. Reporting to the Engineering Manager. The candidate is responsible for making well informed decisions to contribute to the technical direction of the projects their team works on, with a focus on delivering functionality and a strong bias towards action and quality.

The candidate will play a key role in scoping their team’s technical work, using their knowledge to ensure it’s properly sequenced, designed, and implemented. Their critical thinking and solution-oriented approach will be applied continually to contribute to the success of the team. Senior Developers use their experience and perspective to build security and performance into all they do, with an emphasis on continuous delivery and monitoring.

You will be joining the team responsible for a mission-critical mobile application used by thousands of healthcare professionals to coordinate care, capture clinical data, and make real-time decisions that directly impact patient outcomes.

What You’ll Do

  • Design, code, test, as well as debug complex software with a high level of quality
  • Provide technical leadership for your team, and assist in improving your colleagues’ skills through code reviews, technical mentoring, role-modelling, coaching, and knowledge-sharing.
  • Lead technical innovation in the areas of component re-use, extensibility, maintainability and scalability.
  • Monitor your applications in production and proactively identify and fix issues clients are encountering.
  • Contribute to defining and implementing the product-wide technical roadmap, ensuring the success of technical cross-team initiatives and responsible adoption of new technologies that are aligned with industry trends.
  • Participate in a support queue rotation (designed to respect personal time) to support team software.
  • Identify gaps in product requirements and work with Product Owners to design features that meet client needs
  • Plan, implement and execute end to end automated tests that validate good quality results. Evolve AlayaCare’s testing practices.
  • Help team members understand core concepts and tools of their craft.
  • Anticipate problems, recognize barriers, and proactively raise concerns to management and to senior members of the technical organization.

What You Bring to the Team

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in computer science, engineering or related fields.
  • 4+ years of hands-on experience with data software development.
  • Experience managing complex, enterprise-level multi-screen Android applications supporting a large non-technical user base.
  • Awareness of contemporary industry trends in technology, design patterns, and software development tooling & practice.
  • Experience making difficult technical decisions in ambiguous situations.
  • Strong written and spoken English communication skills, targeting both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience with KMM & Test Automation are nice to have.
  • Bilingual in French and English is a nice to have.

Location and Work Model

This role is based in Montreal. At AlayaCare, our hybrid model includes 2 set in-office collaboration days/week, and it is expected that team members are present in the office on those days to foster connection, innovation, and teamwork.
